In one of our trips to Taman Negara, we met a tour operator who ran an overland off-road tour. Then there was this newly opened tracks to the Park. Commercial operator took the opportunity to start ferrying service. they were giving competition to the company supplying boat rides to the park. The road journey upstream was only an hour as compared to 3 hours on the river. We had the idea of discussing with him. More so about details of other trips around the vicinity. To contact this guy, he left his contact as the Jerantut Rest house. The Rest house was located on a low hill overlooking the trunk road. Coming from Kuala Lipis, it will be the first building on the right. It shared this piece of prime land with the District Officer's house.
This time around, we looked forward to meeting him there. We found our Rest House as well. Good co-ordination We left the main road. The moment we turned into the Rest house's compound, we were immediately greeted by the rooms. The reception area was an office through a passage beside this block shown in the photograph.
It appeared large with rooms scattered over 3 levels. The sheltered paths linked up all the rooms. This was a view taken from the high ground. Where we entered, this would be a spot behind the buildings. Behind all the complexes shown earlier and on the highest part of the land, a separate building stood alone. This was an area for VIP staying in the Rest house. Picture above. The whole complex appeared to be in good condition. Once again, the operator had found it non-viable to continue accepting the contract. They, the local councils seemed to have chosen guys who had difficulties making the place worked. On the other hand, those operator who faired well, were given the boots. No one can shed any lights on the situation. It was good we had these photograph before the buildings share the same fate as its counterpart in Mersing! |
