Slim River is an important but dimensionally small administrative town. The Rest House being the venue for most formal activities was more renounced than the town itself. Before the current Expressway was completed, traffic using the Main Highway 1 had to pass through Slim River town. From the town, the old road continued meandered along with the river "Slim River". This is the road to Slim Village! The Rest House was located at the start of this winding stretch to Slim Village. The first change. The winding stretch going through Ulu Slim village were upgraded. Highway 1, got its first straight stretch of road. It was a breeze of 22 kilometers. It was also the first time Malaysian motorist were taught about paying "toll." This new road still met up with Slim River. It by passed Ulu Slim Village. The Rest house was in Slim River
The view of the whole Rest House This Rest House occupied a building with a spacious lawn. The area was situated on a piece of high ground. Without having to say, in an area among other governmental offices. There were the police barrack and skill training school. This building in the shape of an "L". Incorporated at the longer leg wing, the center block, the hall here as dinning cum conference room!
In remote towns like Slim River, the buildings may appeared small by city standards. The role played by this set up were very critical. Imagine a rural community who do not eat out. Low end eateries, if at all available . Here, they served decent standard food. Enabling people to gather. Therefore quite understandable that this joint here had earned its status as the pride of town!
A luxury that reminded us of those easy and more care free days. |
