Temerloh

Riverine town

We entered the town of Temerloh from the Highway. It was sort of roads that shot off the highway. The town itself was by-passed. Good, in the sense, resident need not worry about the high speed traffic rushing from one town to another.

The road eventually after half a kilometer or so led us into a town. Small town arranged in square. The shop houses with 2 floors

Outside the square, i.e. moving out of the commercial hub, traditional shop houses gave way to tall buildings. Understandably, such structures are normally associated with those for banks. They dominated another small area.

From this short stretch, the road began moving slightly uphill.

The road to the Rest house moved uphill passing by the town's public car park

In no time at all, we reach the top of the hill. Here we got a commanding view of the town and the river bank.

This was where the Rest house stood.

This Rest house complex was a couple of new detached buildings.

Here is the view of the reception area with living quarters on the left. Then the cafeteria on the right..

The frontage was accompanied by a lavish and paved car park.

The Rest house in Temerloh had earned its status as a destination for a good seafood. The place also acted as the center of social life in Temerloh. For example, the local chapter of the Rotary Club used it as a venue for their meetings.

At the "back" or the other side of these buildings, there was another equally large lawn.

It is well shaded. Even though the compound was on high ground, other buildings in the neighborhood had obstructed most view. There was only one angle that was not blinded. That of the river!

We have heard of the famous steam "Patin" fish of Temerloh for some time now. But yet to locate the shop that prepares this delicacy. Well, forget about the rumors of the "shack" besides the river.

According to the cook at this restaurant, they served the best steamed "patin" or river catfish.

This sub-species found in the upper reaches of the Pahang River was successfully bred in cages on the river.

On the subject of river fishes, they were readily available in Temerloh.

With today's effective distribution network, everywhere else could have access to these fishes!

The niche of this restaurant came from their pick of catfishes caught in the wild. Free ranging fishes. They tasted better and original as compared to their farm bred cousins.

Yes, from the Seafood Restaurant, this is the view of the Semantan River.

The little contraption in the picture. They were at the bank. An example of a cage to farm catfishes.

This was yet another Rest House that was very well kept and managed. Truly a pride of Temerloh Township.
