Tanjong Malim

Border  town

Tanjong Malim was really a frontier town. Situated at the boundary of Perak and Selangor, it was some distance away from Ipoh, the state capital. But its proximity with Kuala Lumpur, made those us from the federal capital, felt that Tanjong Malim was not that far from us.

The Rest House occupied a building in large field. This building was in the form of an authentic olden days bungalow. With pillars and windows displaying  contemporary designs of its era!

Wide lawn and spacious drive way. There was also no fencing, reminiscence of the colonial days. Unlike present days compound where perimeter fencing becomes imperative!

The building reflected the glory of yesteryears. Neglected and joining the depressed mood of the present township. Decaying and confirming that all had seen better days!

Following the practices we saw in all other towns, this Rest Houses was located in an area together with other administrative offices.

In this place, there was the Public Works Department!

The patio doubling up as a cafe' in the veranda. Reminded us  of  the old and classical lifestyle.

Such facilities and fashion are fast making a come back in the cities!

Even though Tanjong Malim had a full fledged township. Had many good eateries, resident in the area, found it to be a convenient place to have lunch too

The large space of its compound at the edge of town made the location an excuse to park their vehicles for the whole day without charges! OK! If they needed to pay parking charges for their car, the town should be considered as urbanized.

The building looked ancient. To add to the depressed mood, most time the place was deserted.

The small dinning area was kept in presentable state.

The Rest House keeper must be proud of the level of services he maintained under such trying conditions.

The band of loyal customers keep him going!

We had seen this feature of raised floor with hollow space beneath the buildings.

It is prominent in many old buildings.

There had been many speculations as to their purposes. But be patience, let's hear it from the architecture boys someday!

We are disappointed at the looks of the old building, but impressed at the manner how this contractor managed to make this neglected outfit viable.

In a deserted town and trying conditions ! Shame to those other contractor who couldn't sustain the concept. Even though they were allocated with a better, bigger and more beautiful Rest Houses. And in more profitable locations

A thumb's up to this contractor!
