Tanjong Tengkorak Mangrove estuary
-27th December 2003.
This little obscure village
had always being my destination for lunch, whenever I am around the
Kuala Selangor area. I discovered this restaurant on stilt in 1998.
This month I had being there 4 times and even having almost the same
menu, I still love the cooking. In my earlier trips I was or am
still chasing after the Black capped K. I had so far pictured the
Collared, Stork billed and the Common. But the picture I made of the
Black capped is still unacceptable.
This day, I showed Uncle Foo
and party "My" secret bird hide. It is a rather large shed about 15
m square, used by the fisherman as a store for nets and complete
with a jetty. Right at the
estuary and in the midst of a Mangrove forest. All one has to do is
to lie back, the Kingfishers, Sandpipers, Egret, Tailorbirds and
Kite will be flying past. Every one was impressed and concurred with
my observation. That day, it was well past noon. The party should be
contended with seeing the hard core residents, Common Kingfisher, Collared
and Terek Sandpiper.
For lunch, while the
food was superb, the party could not helped being distracted by the
Chinese Egret and Sandpiper running around the shoreline. The birds too
were seeking their lunch at that hour. Later, a group of Little
Terns flew in and added a non stop air show.
This place was revisited many
times and once a new field report was prepared.
